On this day, the regiment crossed Berwick Bay, east to Brashear City (Morgan City), Louisiana, and again set up camp.
Accounts differ as to the date the 16th Ohio crossed Berwick Bay (Atchafalaya River) from Berwick to Brashear City (Morgan City), Louisiana. Pvt. Peter Perrine, Company C, seems clear about crossing on November 13, when he states,
13th. Crossed over the bay to Brashear City where we staid untill the 22nd.
Cpl. Theodore Wolbach in his series of articles, Camp and Field, describing the history of the regiment, also states,
On the 13th we crossed the bay to Brashear City, where we encamped...
.
However, Pvt. Thomas B. Linn, a drummer from Company B, tells us he crossed over about noon on November 18, five days later. It may very well be that the entire regiment did not cross at the same time. For the purposes of this account, we shall consider November 13 as the day of crossing.
