A SCOUT TO BAYOU SARA

Around midnight on this morning some portion of the regiment, camped on the Mississippi River at Morganza Bend, Louisiana, joined other units totalling about 2000 men and embarked on a scouting mission down the river to Bayou Sara in search of Rebels.  It is not known how far the troops moved inland.  One report indicates they travelled 12 miles down stream and returned around noon.  Other reports indicate the troops didn't return until the next day.

This period map shows a very approximate route the troops on the scouting mission took from their camp at Morganza Bend, Louisiana, to Bayou Sara and back.
