AFTERMATH

On this day, the 16th Ohio, with General McClernand's force, remained at Arkansas Post, Arkansas. Although no specific information has been found indicating exactly what the 16th Ohio soldiers were doing, it can be surmised they participated in the general activities of the troops. This involved the complete destruction of Fort Hindman and the removal of Confederate prisoners which were taken to steamboats and transported north to St. Louis.

Pvt. Peter Perrine indicates the 16th Ohio (or elements of) spent the day loading the boats and destroying the forts.

Pvt. Mason of the 42nd Ohio tells us a heavy snowstorm occurred that evening.
