NORTH TOWARD ARKANSAS POST

Rather sketchy details tell us the 16th Ohio, along with Sherman's divisions, stayed on board their ships docked at Milliken's Bend, on the Mississippi River the night before and into today. Pvt. Newt Gorsuch tells us the flotilla started out again at 3:00pm, heading north on the Mississippi. He mentions it was raining very hard and his cabin was full of water. It is assumed the 16th Ohio is still on board the steamboat Fanny Bullit.

It is not known how far the ships travelled that evening so the web author will take the liberty of estimating their distance.

*Some information from Civil War Diaries and Selected Letters of Robert Newton Gorsuch, a private in Company B, 16th OVI, recently published in book form by Newt Gorsuch's great grandson, Everett Gorsuch Smith, Jr. The book is available for purchase from various Internet sources.
