Arkansas Post consequently we went on up the river to the mouth of White river arriving there on the 7th and on the 9th went up white to Arkansas Post. |

The Gun boats began to shell the Post about 10 A.M. and attract their attention of the enemy while the Infantry surrounded the fortifications. Our regt not having but three or four officers was left to guard the fleet of Steamers. |

This morning began in earnest and continued until about 4 Oclock P.M. when the enemy hauled down their Secesh rag and run up a white one and surrendered. we took about 7000 prisoners |
