Hall diary

Started on again and marched 14 miles stoping at 11 P.M. and rested until 2 P.M. of the 11th when we resumed our march and went 7 miles to Manchester arriving there at dark. Camped on a rising piece of ground. good water was very scarce there being but one spring. we staid here 10 days. The balance of the Division evacuated the Gap on the 17th and joined us on the 20th. we procured some flour here which came very good to us as we had been out of bread for several days. on the 21st the Brigade was taken out to witness the execution of a Private belonging to the 3rd Ky for murdering one of his fellow soldiers. One Lt and one private was detailed from the 16th to assist in the execution.
