This letter from the War Department to Milton Mills acknowledges Mills' affidavit(s) submitted to explain the loss of military ordnance while under the responsibility of Mills as Captain of Company D. It is assumed this letter puts and end to the series of vouchers, affidavits and other correspondence between Mills and the government concerning the final accounting for military equipment lost during battle. Interestingly, the letter is not signed by the Ordnance officer.
This document was among the papers of Maj. Milton Mills and was handed down through his family.
