This document is a list of military ordnance issued to the regiment's Assistant Quartermaster, Lt. Absalom Finch, by Capt. Milton Mills. The regiment would embark on the march to Cumberland Gap the next day, part of Gen. George W. Morgan's successful campaign to take The Gap for the Union, culminating with its occupation on June 18, 1862.

The actual date this document was prepared is unknown, but, since Milton Mills signs as formerly Capt., would have to be some time after he returned to the regiment in June, 1863, after being captured at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou on December 29, 1862, and promoted to Major while a prisoner of war.

This document was among the papers of Maj. Milton Mills and was handed down through his family. Mills was Captain of Company D at the time this document was prepared.
