This is an image of part of Adm. David Porter's fleet docked at Alexandria, Louisiana, taken from the banks of the Red River.  These steamships would have been used for troop and supply transport. The photo source is unknown but associated with it is this handwritten description:

Porters fleet at Alexandria Louisiana in 1864, during the Civil War Between The States, this picture was taken at Alexandria Louisiana on March 16, 1864.
The fleet boats names from the front are-- Southwestern, W. L. Ewing, Clara Belle, Emerald, Des Moines, Choutmars, Sioux City, Thomas E. Tutt, Starlight, Lioness, Red Chief, Belle Creole, Rob Roy, Belladonna, Diadem, Mattie Stephens, Arizona, Silver Wave, Adriatic, Liberty, and also tinclad Grossbeak.

This photo would have been taken on Gen. Nathaniel Banks' trip up the Red River toward Shreveport, Louisiana, his ultimate goal.
