This map (north to left)) shows the location of troops at the brigade level during Grant's second assault Vicksburg on May 22, 1863. The red star shows the approximate position of the 16th Ohio under Col. Daniel W. Lindsey's 2nd Brigade under Gen. Peter J. Osterhaus' Ninth Division, commanded by Maj. Gen. John A. McClernand of the 13th Corps under Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. Note: It is believed Lindsey and the 16th Ohio maintained the same position for both the first and second assaults.
