Web Author's Notes:
Below is an article found in
The Holmes County Farmer, published February 5, 1863. It is the printing of a letter sent to the newspaper by Thomas Buchanan Linn, a Private and Musician in Company B, describing the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou. Of particular interest is the detailed listing of the killed, wounded and captured members of the 16th Ohio. It should also be noted that Linn wrote the letter while on board the steamship Fanny Bullit, which was, at that time, transporting the 16th Ohio with a fleet of other Union soldiers on their way to the Battle of Arkansas Post which occurred on January 10 and 11, 1863.
