Map #11 of Battle of Chickasaw Bayou
Web Author's Notes:
Perhaps the most informative map yet discovered, this map, found in The Forty-Second Ohio Infantry - A History of the Organization and Services of That Regiment In the War of the Rebellion, 1876 - F. H. Mason, late Private of Company A - Cobb, Andrews & Co., Publishers, shows the specific paths taken by Union troops as they were sent across Chickasaw Bayou over the Rebel rifle pits and up to the very edge of the enemy's defenses located in the woods and up the steep bluffs overlooking the battlefield. It is interesting to note the map author specifically identifies the 16th Ohio and his own regiment, the 42nd Ohio.
